Good Post sis. You need to love yourself to be able to laugh at yourself and unfortunately we as a community have forgotten that love is at the heart of our religion and not rules.

Jon Stewart is great at pointing out the hypocrisy of the Bush administration. It is extremely funny and sarcastic, but perhaps that is needed to show how flawed the policies and strategies are.

Thank you for all of your kind comments.

With respect to my derision of sarcasm, I stand by my assessment. The point that "they pander to a lower expectation" is the crucial point, which follows into the partial absence of wit: in many cases satire will only be met with bewilderment, yet sarcasm will almost always be understood for what it is. Why? Because you're engaging the person at a different level.

Having said that, just because I, and many others, would class sarcasm as a less sophisticated type of humour is not to say that those being sarcastic are not sophisticated. It's a reflection on the audience not the speaker of the humour. And, as with most things, there are always, always exceptions. This is why I said sarcasm is "largely absent of wit" as opposed to "completely".

Very timely and persuasive. I agree that satire is an important weapon that is unfortunately absent from our arsenary. Make fun, not war.

I would have to disagree though with your derision of sarcasm. Many satirical pieces feature sophisticated sarcasm, where untruths are mentioned in a witty way. I think that sarcasm and outright mockery are tools that we need to utilise, especially against the bigoted and the tyrannical. In fact, Muslims in Egypt and other countries have been doing that for centuries; little else is as effective for venting and for publically humiliating those who have no shame.

PS. For those who are interested in Australian satire that often involves us, you probably want to check out The Chaser's war on everything. Their mockery of anti-Muslim sentiments (such as their survey on building a mosque in Mosman) is quite the laugh.

Excellent points...

I wonder why it is that Muslims seem incapable of humour? The only Muslims that are funny seem to be the ones who do it at the expense of their religion..

Nice points...It gets really frustrating for Muslims to deny that there are problems. The only introspection there is, is to feel sorry for ourselves. Then look at what THEY are doing to US. I call it the "scapegoat culture"
