Oh well, once Google gets hold of that, they will no doubt pull it for copyright infringement … but it just goes to show that this didn’t start with 9/11.
Who is that guy ranting about “thinking like a Jew etc”? He didn’t look like an Arab to me.
No, thats right there is a proud history of Anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bigotry from Hollywood.
This montage did not include
1. the contemptible depiction of Arabs in “Lawrence of Arabia”
2. The “Mummy” films
3. The movie “Hidalgo”
4. Even “Aladdin”
and many many more
I am no expert, I think we need the opinion of a professional movie critic (who is also a religious Muslim)
This one’s already up on google. On Jacqueline Salloum’s website, the director, you have another link where you can watch the whole thing. I think her aim is to raise public awareness. What’s however advertized is the book “Reel Bad Arabs” by Jack Sheehan, so maybe it’s a way of making people read that book.
I think we have to look at this through the discourse of Edward Said’s Orientalism. I agree with Baybers that we need a professional movie critic. In all of Walt Disney’s films, there’s an amount of racism. One article notes that in lyrics of the opening song of the film, an Arab character sings: “Oh, I come from a land, From a faraway place, Where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear if they don’t like your face. It’s barbaric, but, hey, its home.” This was removed after Arab-American groups protestes in the US.
Empires define themselves by the dehumanization of the Other.
That link was taken down by Google, but I think this is another link to it:

Reel Bad Arabs - How Hollywood Vilifies a People by Jack G Shaheen is an in-depth exploration of how Arabs have been depicted in Hollywood over the years.
Also, this has been given a very basic treatment here.
