Muftis were needed in early days in each countries or regions because of dificulties in communication and the distances between countries. But today communication is not an issue, distances are easily covered by different methods of transports. there are the best religious minds in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Syria, they will be more than capable of answering all our needs and issuing fatwas if need be. Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilali has done more damage to the Muslim community then help it. Lets improve the sorry states of the Imams in Australia first before we think of Mufti.
