The lawyer and family representative of Dr Haneef, the imprisoned Gold Coast doctor, have reportedly agreed to speak at a Hizb ut-Tahrir rally to be held in Sydney on Sunday.
Update: Peter Russo and Dr Haneef’s relative have both cancelled and will not be attending the rally.
Update 2: The Australian has more on the issue.

Bit of a leading question, isn’t it?
his lawyers participation should not in anyway affect dr haneefs case….
Does anyone else get the vibe that this is an idea of the non-good variety?
Its insane, its the one move that could destroy public support for Haneef.
I also wonder at the quality of his legal counsel if they can’t work out who HT are, and that they need to stay clear of them
T-Cell - Before you continue your predictable slander, apparently Peter Russo has this evening informed the organisers that current developments will now preclude him and Imran from making themselves available in Sydney on Sunday.
Also, I don’t think its particularly helpful to individualise this case. Dr Haneef is not the first, and certainly not the last, to live the consequences of the multi-facted war on terror. That rally on Sunday transcends both Hizb ut-Tahrir and Dr Haneef. Jzk.
The lawyer Peter Russo and Haneef’s cousin won’t be speaking there. I understand they have cancelled.
The former PM Malcolm Fraser is also addressing the rally! That’s pretty impressive..
Wow- that’s pretty harsh. Banned, just for insinuating that Austrolabe was asking a leading question.
Impressive that he could be so stupid, yes.
there is nothing wrong with HT organising a rally in support of dr haneef……. any one of us could become the next ‘haneef’…..
i havent heard of any other muslim organistraion getting off their backsides and organisng anything in this saga…….. hats off to HT…….
