And is he really comparable to Ibn Warraq et al, when he is (by his own representation) still a Muslim even if a reprehensible one?

I don’t think he’s comparing Ibn Warraq to Ed but simply pointing out the obvious fact that non-muslims keep looking for a “Prester John” like figure with all the answers.

You bet! I think what you wrote may also apply to the upcoming ‘Enlightened Muslims’. Ed Husain is but a single example, but that doesn’t mean we can’t generalise. I think, Baybers, you covered the bases well, well enough to form a theory.

Is Ed Husain really this week’s news? The last time I read of him in the papers was weeks ago, unless he has turned up in the press down under now that he’s been forgotten in England. And is he really comparable to Ibn Warraq et al, when he is (by his own representation) still a Muslim even if a reprehensible one?
