Sheikh Salman al-’Awdah, one of the leading ‘independent’ scholars in Saudi Arabia, has delivered a Ramadan message to Usama Bin Laden. Arab News has some coverage of the message, writing:
In a major blow to the ideology of Osama Bin Laden and his followers in the Kingdom, Sheikh Salman ibn Fahad Al-Oudah, a popular Saudi religious scholar, has criticized the way in which Bin Laden has ruined Islam’s global image.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the majority position of Saudi scholars, independents or not, was largely known to be against the antics of Osama et al…
Although I suppose it is good that this message has been pushed back into the media cycle.
The vast majority of Scholars worldwide are against what Binny is doing.
That’s true. However, these sorts of things carry more weight amongst the ‘common Muslims’ when they come from scholars who are not in any way associated with the Saudi state. Isn’t it time to start asking questions?
