If you can’t even answer your own question Darrin, what makes you think you can speak with any type of authoritativeness regarding Islam and can tell Muslims what their own religion supposedly tells them by looking at the religious sources in translation?

GMan, I’m not sure whether that was humour or not. God is not a ‘native’, ergo, English is not His ‘native language’. Imagine the confusion were the Prophet’s, especially Moses, addressed in a language that would not come into being for hundreds or thousands of years.

It has nothing to do with agreeing with the translation and everything to do with the process of how one turns evidence into law.

As a simple example there is a hadith that tells us that there is no prayer without a specific verse in it, which would lead the ignorant to think that the obligatory prayer is invalid without it, yet according to the Hanafi madhab the Quran trumps hadith where there is an apparent contradiction and all one needs to do is “recite what you know” as a bare minimum of validity. So for starters, what other evidence is there that bears on this issue, how are they ranked, how are they supposed to be understood and how do they interact?
